Tropical Storm the storm is projected to become a infrequent category five hurricane as it veers in the direction of the Caribbean island, causing deadly rapid inundation and landslides.

The hurricane, which registered winds of up to 195 km/h as of 0600 Greenwich Mean Time, is currently turning toward the northwest in the Caribbean region and is expected to make landfall by midweek, as reported by weather experts.

Advisories of blackouts and disruption to utilities have been announced as the hurricane generates up to 76cm of rainfall and sea level surges as high as 13ft above normal levels. "Seek shelter now," inhabitants have been told.

This hurricane is the thirteenth hurricane in the current Atlantic season, which usually concludes in November.

"An extended timeframe of damaging winds and intense precipitation has started and will cause severe and deadly sudden floods and numerous landslides," advised weather authorities.

The country's head of government the statesman said: "I know that there are numerous residents who are anxious, who are extremely apprehensive, and rightfully so: worry is natural.

"Yet the most effective method to manage nervousness and any apprehension and anxiety is to remain prepared."

Locals are being instructed to secure their homes with sand barriers and timber panels, and to stock up on necessary supplies.

Wider Impact

Warnings are also in effect for regions of the neighboring country including the main city, Port au Prince, the adjacent nation and eastern Cuba, where Melissa is anticipated to bring analogous consequences by the midweek period.

Landslides already being caused by the storm have resulted in two fatalities in the country, according to local authorities.

Projected Trajectory

Melissa is predicted to move across the island nation by the middle of the week before passing across the Caribbean archipelago and out into the Atlantic Ocean.

By the time it arrives at Cuba, it is forecast to have weakened to a category three cyclone.
