Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Police then discovered multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state early analysis show the substance was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials said they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative said the vandalism left him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
